freedom of speech??

Hi guys
I got 34 comments, what abt others? Many students did not specify the professions but quite a few got it right. Read thru your comments! It was interesting to note varied comments ranging from interesting to not so interesting and interesting only in parts and non-existent humour(swathi)! It is each one’s preference so no issues. But still was the humour non-existent? And Swathi why use the word hypocrisy? By the way who is govindarajan? Good start for the first posting. Hope u all continue to be vocal in the coming weeks.
This week
A leading weekly magazine in its special edition for independence quoted the following:
India Unfree: Don’ts and Can’ts: Taboo Nation
A roster of recent attacks on anything that displeases some group or the other
In India YOU - Can’t write; Can’t shoot (for cinema); can’t reside; can’t dress; can’t speak; can’t protest
Give your views on this headlines

It brought out the importance of English as an international language The main intention for everyone was to learn eng and the one they speak with the little they knew made it much mre funny. On the whole I really enjoyed the show.

This time my comments are gonna b about freedom of speech since that is the stuff assigned to b commented. In a so called free nation like India people r supposed to think from different angles b4 the say something.Right to freedom of speech is one of the six fundamental rights of our constitution but as they say it's just written and nothing is in practice. Our people r not free to say whatever they think.Let's take politicians 4 instance, ven the ruling party says what they've done 4 the people it'slike attacking the opposition party and ven the opposition party says wat should b done 4 the people it is like attacking the ruling party. In such a society the freedom 4 the common people 2 speak is really lame or uncool. And it doesn't end with speaking, let's say a movie. The cini field hav lot of restrictions too. They should get through the sensors, shouln't b critisized by any of the political parties, shouln't resemble anyone's personal life n so on..Well there is one more thing, the movies should not objectify women. There is always a difference between ur artistic appreciation n ur objection.Well coming to the writing part u r not free to write anything u think not considering the fact that the stuff u write is right or wrong.Even if u write something right it sure will b wrong 4 someone else n the media people working in the news papers are the ones often getting in trouble 4 such things.Well if not from ur own word's even if u wanna quote someone else's words n if the time and situation r not right u sure will end up in trouble. If u take dressing the most affected one's r the girls/women.In such a male chauvenistic society like ours if women don't hav the freedom 2 dress according 2 their wish then whet do they hav? And if people protest against public issues they end up in jail, they are hit n sometimes they r even killed.I gotta say our country has some serious issues.Well I can give so many examples 4 each one but it will definitely target some one n i can get into so much trouble 4 it.I guess I gotta tell that's how our nation is.And thus i conclude with this since i don hav freedom either to write much about such a controversial topic...

hi friends this is me Gloria
well our lang teacher has given us a new task.
this time the topic is freedom of speech , shoot, write etc .last aug 15 we celebrated our 61st independence day. 61 long years but still no freedom to speech. my gosh .if some person says his/her views, the people just raise some questions and it is said that they talk controversial but what i say is that, you can say or write or even make a film your views but that must not disturb the sentiments of certain people because this will probably raise some kind of trouble to the speaker or writer or whatever he/she is just as taslima nasreen.because the situation right now is like this. yes take for instance the journalists they work very hard and collect n come some news ,but the editors fear the big bosses n don't publish it.and even some editors says "you are fired " to the journalists who brings such stuffs which would shake the society if brought to light. so where is the liberty to do this even after the 61 long years of our independence yes i do agree with sus even when making a movie. some movies are being criticized by certain group of societies such as politicians, religion etc.i want to say more about this issue but simply saying does not going to cost anything. better try to fight for our rights. and at the end of the next sixty years i don want to see any people fight for theirs basic rights such as the author had mentioned, if i am alive then. thats all my comments i wind up. meet ya in the next activity

Ma’am first of I would like to apologize for certain words I had used in my previous blog activity. By hypocrisy I meant how I wanted my friends to think that I shared a lot in common with them and then understood that I was being some other person and not me .So sorry

What do people mean when they say they don’t have freedom of expression?? Don’t we have news channels pointing out when the government goes wrong in our country??????? Don’t we have fashion weeks???????? Don’t we have public meetings???? Don’t we have cinema houses??????????
What are people not allowed to do in our country? What do these so called people who think their rights are being curbed want?
Ok if some person writes stuff that some others don’t like we should understand that it is his right to write or publish some thing then it is also another persons right to oppose him if he or she finds it degrading Where did the question of the nation not being free come in here?. Rights and rules are common for one and all aren’t they?

About shooting, if all these so called creative people from the cinema industry become a little more socially conscious and start producing and funding good cinema I think they seriously have a right to blame the government about not letting them shoot .But what do our films show us today. It portrays a larger than life hero who kills insane villains or they are usually love stories .For the one or two good movies the nation produces per year I think the amount of freedom these movie makers are given is more than enough. If they don’t bother about the society they seriously lose their right to complain about it either. Now a days our news channels covering everything right from rape to agrarian crisis to saif ali khan’s tattoo. What more do they want to shoot?
India is like this .you can speak what ever you want to until it doesn’t bother another person or become a reason for communal riots. But honestly tell me which society is totally free. I would give anyone 1000 bucks if they pointed out to me one nation that doesn’t revolt when its feelings are hurt, one community that decides to remain quite when its people are insulted .Reacting against something controversial is a natural phenomenon .It is one of those basic instincts that keeps the human race going.Blaming the nation or the govenment or the nation for public opinion or reaction is silly.
So what I would like to say is that the news item basically tried to sensationalize something that is non prevalent in our country.

Hai,
it's me manjari, our mam has told us to blog about the freedom of speech,so i wish provide my comments,
according to me in our nation we has the freedom to speech but in now a day if we speak too much it is considered as an offence ;when we got independence there were no correct rules and regulations but at 1950;they framed some rules and some rights to us ;so we used to tell that we all have rights ,iam accepting that we have rights but we are not supposed to enjoy it completely .we have rights to speak , can you say that all are bold enough to speak . for example : we has noticed a murder or something else which is a criminal thing do we report it boldly to the police or v will speak in court;we will not ; either if he is a brave person he will think for sometime i.e as we have freedom we are not supposed to use it at that situation .But iam not sticked to that we r not using ,we r using our free... to speak in certain places like some banth ;strikes;about political issues etc... in parliments the politicians use to argue, there will be a conflict between two opposition parties and they used to speak more things which the ruling party does and doesn't .at that situation we peoples speak something about their arguments thus we speaks something which doesn't harm us ; by the same time peoples used to tell that we should not speak about politics in public places .that's why i like to say that we all has the freedom to speak but we r not using it completely due some reasons and some situations

HAI FRIENDS....

HERE IT IS MY COMMENTS...
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without thinking what a disaster will come...

according to our laws we have a freedom to write, speak etc... But we will think that what happen if we express our ideas, views etc...

for example :-any one shall speak about his views about any poiticians it will become a great issue...

we have a freedom to speak,write,dress...but there will be a limitation... i am agree with shobi...

ok..let i can command badly about any person in our class i can be scolded that is a nature thing...

we have a freedom but we can use it in a proper way (i.e)wearing dress is our opinion...but the proper wearing is comfort for us...

now a days cini field become too bad...thatsy i did not like to watch T.V...

ok friends...shall we met next blog....

hai friends
my opinion about this topic is we got the freedom but we can't say that,it's a complete freedom, because when we r talking about politics, we should listen to the place where we r talking whether some people are listening to it,because it create some problems towards.there r some restrictions in cine fields also;i.e they should make films without harming the public.all the things collected by the reports r not published in the newspaper it is due to some political issue . one's personal freedom should not hurt others.so i like
to say we have all rights but there is some extent to it.
we can meet at next blog. bye friends.

India freedom for 61 years ago

All peoples are having rights to speak, write. we have the rights to speak ,write certain limit it over exceeds it leads to some problems all are speak but another person is accept or oppose it our choice. We have freedom to do anything that doesn’t affect others.
AS we have freedom not stuff another.Idon't understand in taboo nation mam
thankyou meet in next activity.

tamilselvi said...

hi mam,

This time you gave a topic about the freedom of speech with different headlines.my view about this as follows.

Can't write:
In India we can write anything that is whatever we want we can write. But it should not hurt others. And it should not wrong matters. So if somebody says that India is unfree to write than it is stupidity.

Can't shoot {for cinema}:
In India there is rights to shoot good things. But they can't shoot obbscenes in India especially in kollywood. But nowadays some films publishing obbscenes in India especially Bolly wood. There is rights to shoot cinema except bad things.

Can't speak:
There is full rights to speak anything but we should keep in our mind that we should not speak things that which hurt others.

Can't dress:
In some places like villages the people refused to wear modern dress, but people living in the city were wearing modern dress. So there is nothing in India that we can't dress.

Can't reside:
We can reside in India anywhere but we need citizenship.

Can't protest:
We can protest anything except personal view of an individual person.

bye mam.

India is an independent nation. But the people in india r not free to do whatever they want. But the constitution and the government cannot be blamed completely. While the media people are not free to write completely against the government but they are free enough to criticize their actions.People are free to talk anythin unless it attacks someone else.Coming to movies the movie makers should concentrate on giving movies which can be viewed by everyone. If it is decent enough no one is going to blame you.Moving on to dressing the fashion field is flourishing and the dressing style has totally changed and comparing our new trend with olden days our dressing style has changed tremendously. so we cannot say that we have no freedom to dress. To conclude in India we have the freeedom to speak, write, shoot, dress and recide but we have restrictions for everything...

To blog about a new topic.
This time the topic is” FREEDOM OF SPEECH”.
Right to freedom of speech is one of the six fundamental rights of our constitution
India got freedom in 1947 ie, 61 years ago. According to me in our country we have the freedom to write and speak. But not against the government.
All the things collected by the reporters are not published in the newspaper it is due to some political reasons. They should not publish any news against the government. If they put it then they must die. In such a society the freedom 4 the common people 2 speak is also really lame.
In cine field also if there is any comment about the government they should get through the sensors.
There are full rights to speak and write anything but there should be a certain limits. We should not attack others by speaking.

And our professors are very smart, we all r very familiar wit these words 'hello frns u al r nomore kids n school babies, no more rules n regulations, u have entered coll, so have fun' but do we al really enjoying our days.. of course we do AT TIMES.. but being grown up young citizens of India we don have freedom at al... also when it comes to middle class family still v can c the house wives dependin on their husband n the poor workers being exploited by their bosses... so al i say is India s free and not INDIANS... India being an independent country, every being has the freedom and right to do what they want. Provided its in the right track is the caution along with it. But sadly this independent nation misuses its freedom and rights. No one would ever care to put a taboo on what is right. Inadvertently or deliberately people tend to go off track, failing to realize n thus reiterate tht India is an unfree nation. This a wrong notion, common amongst many!

Theres nothing as such tht in India you cnt write, shoot, reside, dress, speak, protest, etc. this fact holds good for people who do things against the welfare of one’s nation or culture. For instance, Bangladeshi author, Taslima Nasreen for her alleged anti islam writings; obscene films; Sania Mirza for her controversial dressing against Islamic culture, are a few egs. Whatever be it, when its against the development of the nation, it will not be accepted.

With violence ruling the world in the present scenario, its sad to see communal clashes in a developing nation like India. The recent attack being the clash between Christians n Hindus in Orissa. This probably portrays the lacking togetherness in our country. Its high time India wakes up to work towards a better future.

Hello friends
I’m preethi
This time Ma’am has moved on to a little more difficult controversial topic.
India can never be called a “taboo nation”. It is a free democratic country.
We can talk what ever we want as long as it doesn’t bother another person or community. If you still prefer to exercise your rite and talk something controversial then you are at your own risk. The government can’t keep going around protecting such people.
The press and the entertainment industry have been granted full freedom in our country.
Some movies and news articles have created a stir among the general public. But it happens ALL OVER THE WORLD.
DO these people who complain about right to dress watch any television. After observing the clothes women wear on T.V and cinema if they still prefer to call India a “taboo nation” I seriously don’t know what to type further.
If certain institution or community doesn’t like women dressing up in a certain way then the allegations should be against the institution or the community not the nation in general. And is there really any place in a country where we cant live. I don’t think so. India is a free country.
I think susan has rightly quoted various examples of what happens when pour rights are misused. My opinion is that India is free country and no one can deny this fact and anyone who denies it is lying.

Unknown said...

Ma'am, First of all I thank u for giving us such a good topic.

Hi friends, I'm priyadharshini

In my point of view, INDIA is really UNFREE in some areas especially in protesting, speaking and writing.
I say like this because we don't have freedom to write or speak or protest against the government, politicians and big industrialist. If we do any one of this, we wont be sure whether we will be alive or dead tomorrow. I am not joking, but its the real truth happening in and around us.
I'm really worried that after 61 years of independence, we still don't have freedom to express our views. even if u do so, u will get threatenings frm several ways. INDIA is still a developing country bcoz of the corruption, which happens when the people are not able to say their opinion or correct the things happening around us.
According to me, restriction towards cinema is less. Bcoz we are not permitted to shoot over violence, obscene and any abuse against the government, religion, etc. other than this, shooting a film is no longer a tuff task.
But wen it comes to dress and reside, i think we don't any problem. INDIA is the only country which have different kinds of people and a variety of language spoken.
In case of dressing, we really don't have any problem (if any, its really good to the people).
I conclude by saying INDIA is not totally unfree but in some areas. if we think we can definitely abolish the present situations and get freedom to do whatever good for the nation.

HI iam jaiprakash
this topic FREEDOM OF SPEECH is a great and intresting topic and i thank english mam to give this opportunity.
usually a persons intelligent or his capacity is known only when he speaks. it is suitable all fields say in case of journalist,his/her work fully needs a talent speech to provide a news or an interview. the up coming news is flashed by her speech only.in case of speech a person talks whatever he want in a short time with good points while in case of writing it takes toomuch time.it shows thier boldness, ability, knowledge & correction.a person can talk whatever they want until it is bothered by another person.

for eg;take todays media channel, after the break of the kalingar from SUNTV this channels give more information behind the government.it may lead to destruction of the channel.if it is bothered by the government then they ask the particular channel not publish it.it also applicable to another channels too.

last but not least its too tough to write this comment than speaking.speech is the better way in todays media.

satish said...

Hi friends… this is Satish

Freedom of speech is one of the basic rights in democracy. But, in a democratic country like India, there is a restriction to basic rights. These restrictions reflect the pressurized environment of the people. We can’t express our thoughts freely and our creativeness is limited to a circle. These restrictions are only to the people and not to politicians. They can speak anything, even their speech disintegrate the unity of nation. The best example for this is Raj Thackeray’s speech.

But, when a writer writes something creative, he will be severely attacked by some groups. These kind of things limits the creativeness of all the writers. And filmmakers in India are not free to take any films that are anti-government Even they try boldly, they can’t release the film. In the name of censor almost all the main scenes will be removed from the film. And dress code is a very sensitive issue in India. Dress code can be followed but it should not pressurize their work. When a woman works in heavy-machine industry she has to wear only shirts and pants. We can’t force her to wear a sari; likewise sportsperson should be given freedom to wear a comfortable dress.

We are not 100% free to share your thoughts. We are free only when an honest people-government rules the country.

This time my commet on freedom of speech. It is too tough to say about freedom of speech because we didnot get our freedom in a see manner. Many peoples died for getting our freedom.
After a huge loss of great peoples we got our freedom in 15th aug 1947.now we can say proudly say we are independent country .Iam really proud to say i am an indian because many great leaders ,poets, artist were born in this country.Right to freedom of speech is one of the six fundamental rights of our constitution but as they say it's just written and nothing is in practice. We have freedom to do anything that doesn’t affect others.

We have the right to write about the right information in a right way.

we have nothing to say there is not there in our country . There are many huge temples in our country .and many monuments in our country.
My words is every one should have patriotic feeling about the country

Hey ppl,
I hope everyone s doing great!!
Yeah I ve to accept with certain ppl tat this is quite a controversial topic. But for god’s sake India is a democratic country unlike Gulf countries where I heard there s a lot of rules an regulations which makes India a way better country to live in when u talk abut freedom . U are always under da pressure of the government(gulf) for e.g. its compulsory for women 2 wear pardha n completely cover them or else they r punished. Is it da condition in India?? No, Not at all! Indian government does not say tat u can t do this, you can t do tat unless an until u don’t do something offensive or illegal, which itself strongly states tat we are free!!! So in my perspective, I totally blv tat India is a free country to live in.

Now when it comes 2 clashes bt diff religions the situation is really really scary. The recent bomb blasts in Delhi has crippled da ppl to the core. I don know why these terrorist target da innocent ppl? It’s becoming worse day by day! I wld jus say tat da Indian govt has failed 2 curb them an I wish they r punished accordingly.

YOU- can’t write, can’t shoot (movie), can’t speak, can’t protest, and can’t dress??????? This s jus crap. Unless n until everyt1 s gonna be within their limits there s absolutely no problem at all, an when someone gets over board da govt does check, which is ultimately their responsibility.
So my view point is tat INDIA is not a taboo country!!

here in this blogging session i'm going to log about the "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"
India got independence in 1947.we have passed 61 years of independence but still we cant do anything independent mainly the media cannot do anything independently
They are not able to give the original news to the people.Because media is not allowed to publish anything they want there are many rules and regulations.these rules are framed only for welfare of people but now if any news against government is published using the influence the news will be removed.
Thus,in india we can speak,we can write, but we have more rules and regulations

we have freedom of speech , write and so on only in those written&printed pages. as a individual citizen of India we cannot use these as for as todays situation is concerned. even if some one uses it he/she may not be lost the next day. do you know why this is so????
its simple .our nation though it is a democratic , now it has become a complete political nation. to say you or i cannot even express our views on the nuclear deal and the sethusamuthira tittam or even about the theft at your next door . thats the freedom in our country to a individual citizen.LET SUCH A FREEDOM REMAIN SAFE IN THOSE WRITTEN PAGES.

Hi friends tis s dinesh,
Tis is a very interesting topic...i thank my mam to give tis topic... I think we have no freedom today... but our constitution law tolds tat all citizens must have the own rights to speak wat they think...tis is a impossible thing today... for example we didnt speak against any politicians, bcoz it creates a big problem... Many channels give the favour news about thier owned politicans only.. But some journalist boldy give the real news ,then after some days they were shot dead by some ones.. so many of them afraid of speak real fact.... Next dress coding tis is their own rights so we didnt compuled tat....they wear the dress whichever they feel comfortable... Some told girls have no freedom to dress... i dnt agree tat bcoz today girls wear all dresses including gents dress also....At last i conclude tat we have no freedom to write, speak in a controversial topics.....

i wouldn't say that the people are completely deprived of their freedom to speak,write,shoot,etc..
i would say that they're just given limitations beyond which they're not allowed go .. if a person expresses his hatered or humiliates an object publically or acts in a way that might hurt the sentiments of another person or a group , there is where things get out of hand..only then controversies rise n lead to chaos..you can't just go about lathargically , not being responsible for how you behave ...
just think ..even with all these restrictions imposed on us , there is no peace in the nation...then imagine how worse things could get if we were given complete freedom !!!

HI Friends... this is tamilarasi...

Really i should thank for given this topic. beause i'm being a media student,i should talk in anywhere. so i liked this topic.

just imagine if no freedom to speak, we can't live. why i said "we can't like" u know, without speak how can we communicate with others, so freedom of speech is must to everyone.

what we need to live? obviously we need food, shelter, dress. how we will buy these things? when u communicate with others for your job or shops or buying dress then only u will live in this world..

from that point we came to know the important of speech. which is having a major role? our speech only having that important...

now i'll come to the point, how can i write this paragraph? because of the freedom only i'm writing....

so really i should thank our freedom fighter, because of them only we got this hilarious freedom to speak especially i would like to thank our "father of nation" Mr.Gandhi, because everyone thinking that he only got the freedom to people. so the people thinking that he is the god like that.

ok, this is my opinion about freedom of speech. if i maked any mistake pls forgive me...

bye..... thank u......
